I came across this "manifesto" today online – I really like it so I printed it off and taped it to the main bulletin board in our office (where it received absolutely no comment). I then printed a second copy which I have hung up in my cubicle.
I feel like I need to keep some of these thoughts top of mind. I generally have a pretty cynical eye for most of these motivational manifestos – Live for today....stop and smell the roses…dance like nobody is watching (I don’t think so and I believe my entire family would agree with that decision) but for whatever reason, this one resonated – maybe it was the layout, or the words they highlighted…but it struck a chord.
THIS IS YOUR LIFE. Really - this is my life? I don't get a different one? Like Slim Paley's? Much as this one is going well at the moment, I secretly hoped that I would still have time to become an actress or do a graduate degree at Oxford - but looks like that's out - so what then?
‘IF YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME, STOP WATCHING TV”. Now, as discussed in previous blogs, I LOVE to watch TV. It is truly one of my favourite things to do – but it does suck up a lot of time. Do I need to watch every episode of Say Yes to the Dress? Probably not. Do I really care if Will and Alicia are ever going to start sleeping together again?….hmmm, not really. Is being up on the latest HBO high concept show really a "must do"? maybe, maybe not. I wonder what I could do with all that time if I stopped watching TV.
START DOING THE THINGS YOU LOVE (well, I do love watching TV as previously noted but have identified the downside of that) - there are many other things I love to do and maybe I should start doing them - after all LIFE IS SHORT.
The words that stand out START CREATING and SHARE YOUR PASSION....with all the extra time I have now that I'm not watching TV.
Life might be short, but it's not too late to do what you really want to do - and I need to remind myself of that every day. What do you want to do?
